What To Do With All Those Patches?

I didn't realize that helping my daughter's Daisy troop would mean I would get patches, too. Here's some ideas about what to do with them. (They seem to multiply in the dark.) You could also use these ideas for girls who have no room left on the back of their vest/sash/tunic.

Attach them to or put them in a:
  • Vest
  • Jacket
  • Sweatshirt
  • Blanket
  • Tote bag
  • Backpack
  • Bulletin board
  • Tablecloth
  • Shadow box or other display case
  • Hat.

DIY Shrinky Dinks

I've been thinking about this idea for months when I first read this blog:

(At the time I was obsessed with various Girl Scout projects. Now I'm thinking about making Mickey Mouse jewelry. Yes. Mickey Mouse jewelry.)

Girl Scout Fun Patch Sites

I am obsessed!!

Here's a favorite site b/c it's cheap:

www.patchsales.com.

I've also used these or had them recommended to me:

www.advantageemblem.com

http://www.basicsclothing.com/

http://www.snappylogos.com/

http://www.littleawards.com/littleawards/

http://www.joycrest.com/

http://www.patchworkdesigns.net/

http://www.makingfriends.com/

http://e-patchesandcrests.com/index.php

http://www.patchco.com/

Here's a must-see site when you need  those all-important coffee drinking or iPod listening patches:

http://boyscoutstore.com/patches/spoof-patches/

And this one for other unusual patches:

www.laughinglizards.com.

We ordered this adorable patch for a December animal shelter tour.

Maybe I'll need Disney patches.

How to attach the patches? Forget needle and thread. Fabric glue works for me.

Paper Maché

I'm not exactly obsessed with paper maché, but I have spent a lot a of time looking at projects lately. J has entered a 4H competition requiring a plaster or paper maché creation. We made a piñata a couple of years ago. If he makes another one for this competition, we could use it for M's birthday in April. Since she's an Elmo fan, I thought it'd be relatively easy to do an Elmo head. He, of course, wants a ninja. I guess we can save it for his birthday. Maybe I'll make an Elmo piñata and save a few bucks.

Here are some links to projects he likes:

A ninja from Etsy.

A very large bird, described as difficult: http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/paper_mache_bird.htm

and here's one I like:

btw-I have no idea how to spell maché. Auto-correct keeps turning it into macho. :)
